André Loos studied at the renowned Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin and initially worked in the field of theatre and stage music.

In 1989, he founded the ensemble Modern Gipsy Swing together with Romani Weiss; Martin Weiss joined the group in 1990. Under the new name Martin Weiss Ensemble, numerous recordings, international tours, and artistic milestones emerged, which decisively shaped modern Sinti jazz.

After a personal and musical hiatus, André Loos returned to his roots in 2024. Together with Romani Weiss, he has since once again pursued a vibrant evolution of jazz between tradition and contemporary interpretation.

His playing combines melodic clarity with rhythmic depth and bears a distinctive lyrical signature. Today, André Loos performs, among others, with the Romani Weiss Swingtett and the trio Matrix of Emotion, continuing his artistic work as a stylistically open, sensitive, and at the same time powerful bassist on upright and double bass.
